Kiruna AIF is a Swedish sports club from Kiruna founded in 1927 , which is best known for its ice hockey department .
history
The association was founded in 1927. In 1945 the club's ice hockey department was established. The team's greatest success was their participation in Division 1 in the 1973/74 season , when this was the top Swedish division. In the period that followed, the team regularly competed in Division 1, which was second class from 1975. The Kiruna IF team was created in 1988 through the merger of the ice hockey departments of Kiruna AIF and its league rivals IFK Kiruna . In the meantime, however, a team from Kiruna AIF is again participating in the game. This won Group North A / B of Division 2 in 2018 and rose through two wins (5: 0 and 5: 3) against the Kovlands Ishockeyförening , the winner of Group North C / D in the third-class Hockeyettan , where they are now next to Kiruna IF plays.
The football department , which had played in the third division , among other things, was one of several local clubs in 1970, which merged Kiruna FF .
Another successful division of the club was the handball department , which took part in the 1978/79 season in the highest Swedish handball division.
