The Grums IK was founded in 1920 as a football club, whose first team rose to the third highest division. In 1944 the ice hockey department was added after the Värmland regional ice hockey association was founded. With the club's board member Gösta Åkander, who among other things initiated the construction of an ice rink, the first team was able to achieve initial successes. Lasse Lindström was later engaged by AIK Stockholm , who led the team up to the 1st division. In addition, the club's juniors won the Swedish Junior Championship in ice hockey in 1955.

In 1956, an artificial ice rink was opened in Grums, which at that time was the sixth such structure in Sweden. The ice hockey team of the Grums IK stayed in the top division of Sweden for eleven years , with the greatest success in the club's history being achieved in the 1958/59 season with moving into the final round (SM-Sluspel) and reaching third place in the championship .

In 1965 the Grums IK was relegated from the 1st to the 2nd division and remained in this division. In 1970 the ice rink was roofed over with a tent construction and has been called Billerudshallen ever since . The capacity of the ice rink is 1750 spectators.

In 1975 the Elitserien was introduced as the new first division, so that the Grums IK subsequently took part in the now second division 1st division. In 1979 the club was relegated to the third division before being promoted again in 1985. At the end of the 1999/2000 season , the Grums IK rose from the Allsvenskan in the now third-class 1st division. In 2007 there was a further descent into the fourth class 2nd division.
