The 1958/59 season was the 15th season of Division 1 as the highest Swedish ice hockey division . Master was for the sixth time in the club history Djurgårdens IF . Mora IK , Alfredshems IK , AIK Solna and Malmö FF relegated to the second division.

In the main round, the league was divided into two groups (North and South). Each of the eight teams per group played a total of 14 games. The first two in each group qualified for the final round, in which the champions were played. The last two in each group were relegated directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
