The 1966/67 season was the 23rd season of Division 1 as the highest Swedish ice hockey division . Brynäs IF became champions for the third time in the club's history . Skellefteå AIK , Clemensnäs IF , Örebro SK and Avesta BK relegated to the second division.

In the main round, the league was divided into two groups (North and South). Each of the eight teams per group played a total of 21 games. The four best-placed teams in each group qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played. The last two in each group were relegated directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
