The 1998/99 Elitserien season was the 24th season of the Elitserien , the top division in Swedish ice hockey . Brynäs IF became Swedish champions for the twelfth time in their club history , while IF Björklöven was relegated to the second division.
Regular season
mode
The twelve teams of the Elitserien initially played 50 games each. While the first eight teams qualified for the play-offs, the season was over for the teams in positions nine and ten and the last two had to compete in the Kvalserien to stay up against the best second division teams . Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
