The 1968/69 season was the 25th season of Division 1 as the highest Swedish ice hockey division . Leksands IF became champions for the first time in the club's history . Skellefteå AIK , Hammarby IF , IFK Bofors and Rögle BK relegated to the second division.

In the main round, the league was divided into two groups (North and South). Each of the eight teams per group played a total of 21 games. The four best-placed teams in each group qualified for the final round, in which the champions were played. The last two in each group were relegated directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
