The Gävle Godtemplares IK is a Swedish ice hockey club from Gavle , who above all as the first national champion who is not from Stockholm came, it was announced.

history

The club, founded in 1906, completed its first season in the top Swedish league in the 1947/48 season . 1953/54 reached for the first time in club history the final of the Swedish championship, which was lost to Djurgårdens IF . In 1957 , the club finally won the title as the first team that was not based in the hockey stronghold of Stockholm. Overall, the GIK played in the top league for 17 years before relegated in 1963/64 and finally found himself in amateur hockey.

In 1975 the club merged with Åbyggeby IK to form Gävle GIK / Åbyggeby IK , and in 1983 they entered into a syndicate with Strömsbro IF . Until the separation in 1991, the clubs played under the name Strömsbro / Gävle HF 83 (short: SG83 ). Initially, the club played under the name Gävle HF , until they returned to the old team name in 1996.

Other sports that are now operated in separate departments are soccer and floorball , the latter in the Kvalserien , the second highest national league.
