This time they managed to stay up and the club was able to establish itself in the top midfield of the third division in the early 1970s. 1972 succeeded the relay victory in Division 3 Södra Norrland and then the team survived the promotion round without defeat and thus rose to the second division for the first time.

In 1973 Ope IF ended his first season in the second division in tenth place in Division 2 Norra . In the following season, the team was in a relegation battle, which was managed thanks to the better goal difference compared to the same point competitor Degerfors IF . In the third second division season, the club separated two points from relegated IF Brommapojkarna . The 1976 season was not so successful. Three points behind IF Saab they occupied a relegation place.

Although Ope IF was directly back third division champions, in the promotion games the team failed with only one win behind the promoted IFK Västerås and Kramfors-Alliansen . after two runner-up championships in 1980 succeeded again in the relay victory. This time managed to return to the second division as the first in the promotion round.

After a first year in safe midfield, Ope IF played again against relegation in the second year. Again, the better goal difference saved the club. In the third year 1983 one could not benefit from an increase in the league: Although only the last descent one occupied exactly this place and was again only third class.

As the season winner, Ope IF qualified for the promotion games. After a 2-1 defeat and a 2-1 win against Karlstad BK , the penalty shoot-out had to decide. Ope IF prevailed 3-1 and returned directly to the second division.

After two years in the second division, however, Ope IF again missed relegation and was even passed into the fourth division in the following season. The team succeeded in the immediate promotion to the third-class Division 2 Norra . There the team was able to establish itself and managed to return to the Swedish lower house in 1993. Here, however, the relegation was missed again. Until 1996, the team played with the front, but could no longer manage the promotion.

The first teams from Ope IF, IFK Östersund and Östersund / Torvalla FF joined forces on October 31 of that year under the name Östersunds FK . The new team from Ope IF took over from Östersund / Torvalla FF in the fifth division. There the team became champions in 1998 and rose to the fourth division. However, relegation was missed. After several missed attempts, the rise again succeeded in 2003.
