Glenvar Heights is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 16,898 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Glenvar Heights is bordered by the cities of Pinecrest and South Miami . The CDP is located about 10 km southwest of Miami and is served by US Highway 1 and Florida State Roads 826 ( Palmetto Expressway ), 874 ( Don Shula Expressway , toll), 878 ( Snapper Creek Expressway , toll), 973 , 976 and 986 crosses or touches. Glenvar Heights is connected to the Miami-Dade Metrorail towards downtown Miami via Dadeland North station .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 16,898 inhabitants were distributed over 8,476 households. The population density was 1550.3 inh / km². 88.8% of the population identified themselves as whites , 3.2% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 2.8% as Asian Americans . 2.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.1% to several ethnic groups. 66.5% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 25.1% of all households lived in 24.3% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 55.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.25 people and the average family size was 2.90 people.

19.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 32.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 20.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 39 years. 46.8% of the population were male and 53.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 54,777, with 10.0% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 35.18% of the population, 60.96% spoke Spanish and 3.86% had another mother tongue.
