The Florida State Road 874 is a state highway in the US state of Florida , the locally as Don Shula Expressway known and highway-like is removed. It runs southwest of Miami over a length of 11 km from Richmond Heights to Glenvar Heights and connects the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) with the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike (SR 821). The road is operated by the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority .

Route

The SR 874 begins in Richmond Heights and branches northeast from the Homestead Extension . It then runs through Kendall and Sunset , before joining the Palmetto Expressway in Richmond Heights . In Sunset, the Snapper Creek Expressway (SR 878) branches off from the SR 874 in the direction of Coral Gables .

toll

Since July 17, 2010, all tolls have been collected electronically ( SunPass ). Toll bridges exist at both ends of the route and northeast of the 990 State Road junction in Kendall. Prices are $ 0.25, $ 0.25, and $ 0.50 from southwest to northeast. There is an increased surcharge of an additional $ 0.15 per toll bridge for vehicles traveling on the route without a corresponding transponder.

history

Construction on the road began in 1971, with the first five miles in the southwest completed in 1973 and the remaining two miles completed on July 31, 1975. The street was originally named the South Dade Expressway , but was renamed in 1983 in honor of the Miami Dolphins ' Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Don Shula .
