The State Road begins on State Road 16 south of Orangedale and ends after 45 kilometers in Jacksonville on US Highway 17 and State Road 228 .

From Orangedale FL 13 runs north along the eastern bank of the St. Johns River . It meets Interstate 295 and State Roads 152 , 109 and 126 in the southern suburbs of Jacksonville . In the center of town, State Road crosses the river on Acosta Bridge after an intersection with Interstate 95 , US Highway 1, and State Roads 5 and 10 . In the immediate vicinity of the northern end of the road, it meets US Highways 17 , 23 and 90 .
