The St. Johns County is a county in the US state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is St. Augustine .
history
St. Johns County was formed on July 21, 1821. It was named after John the Baptist . St. Johns County and Escambia County were the two original counties of Florida, bordered by the Suwannee River .
geography
The county covers an area of 2,127 square kilometers, of which 550 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Flagler County , Putnam County , Clay County, and Duval Counties . Together with the counties Baker , Clay, Duval and Nassau , the county forms the metropolitan area Jacksonville .

According to the 2010 census , St. Johns County had 190,039 people in 89,990 households. The population density was 120.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 89.3% white, 5.6% African American , 0.3% American Indian and 2.1% Asian Americans . 0.9% were members of other races and 1.8% of different races. 5.2% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 32.2% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 28.0% of all households. 69.3% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.49 people and the average family size was 2.95 people.
25.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.
The median income for a household in the 64,346 USD , while 9.8% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the first language of 91.97% of the population, 3.39% spoke Spanish and 4.64% had another mother tongue.
