The Lake County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Tavares .

The county covers an area of 2,995 square kilometers, of which 526 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Volusia County , Seminole County , Orange County , Polk County , Sumter County, and Marion County . Together with the counties Orange, Osceola and Seminole , the county forms the metropolitan area Greater Orlando .
history
Lake County was formed on May 27, 1887. It was named after the numerous lakes in the area. There are approximately 1,400 lakes in Lake County.

As of the 2010 census , Lake County had 297,052 people in 144,786 households. The population density was 120.3 people per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 82.0% white, 9.8% African American , 0.5% American Indian and 1.7% Asian Americans . 3.7% were members of other races and 2.3% of different races. 12.1% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 27.3% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 40.4% of all households. 69.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.42 people and the average family size was 2.86 people.
23.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 19.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 31.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 46 years. 48.5% of the population were male and 51.5% were female.
The median income for a household in the 45,663 USD , while 13.0% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 88.22% of the population, 8.82% spoke Spanish and 2.96% had another mother tongue.
