The Gadsden County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Quincy .
history
Gadsden County was formed on June 24, 1823 from parts of Jackson County and named after James Gadsden of South Carolina .
geography
The county has an area of 1,369 square kilometers, of which 32 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Leon County , Liberty County , Calhoun County, and Jackson County . Together with the counties Jefferson , Leon and Wakulla , the county forms the metropolitan area of Tallahassee .

According to the 2010 census , there were 46,389 people in 19,506 households in Gadsden County. The population density was 34.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 35.9% white, 56.0% African American , 0.3% American Indian and 0.5% Asian Americans . 5.9% were members of other races and 1.3% of different races. 9.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 34.3% of all households and persons aged at least 65 in 28.0% of all households. 70.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.12.
26.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 19.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 39 years. 48.8% of the population were male and 51.2% were female.
The median income for a household in the 35,593 USD , while 29.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the first language of 91.01% of the population, 7.91% spoke Spanish and 1.08% had another mother tongue.
