The Escambia County is a county in the US state of Florida . At the 2010 census , the county had 297,619 people and a population density of 173.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Pensacola .

The county is located in the Florida Panhandle and is also the westernmost of the entire state. It has an area of 2,268 square kilometers, of which 552 square kilometers are water. The following counties border Escambia County:

history
Escambia County was formed on July 21, 1821 together with St. Johns County as one of the two original Florida counties. It was named after the Escambia River .
