The Hardee County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Wauchula .
history
Hardee County was formed from parts of DeSoto County on April 23, 1921 and named after Cary A. Hardee , the governor of Florida from 1921 to 1925.
geography
The county has an area of 1,653 square kilometers, of which three square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Polk County , Highlands County , DeSoto County , Manatee County, and Hillsborough Counties .

As of the 2010 census , Hardee County had 27,731 people in 9,742 households. The population density was 16.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 72.0% white, 7.0% African American , 0.6% Native American and 1.1% Asian Americans . 17.1% were members of other races and 2.0% of different races. 42.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 29.5% of all households lived in 41.3% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 74.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.12 and the average family size was 3.52.
31.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 17.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 33 years. 53.6% of the population were male and 46.4% were female.
The median income for a household in the 36,115 USD , while 29.7% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 59.73% of the population, 37.36% spoke Spanish and 2.91% had another mother tongue.
