The Osceola County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Kissimmee .

The county has an area of 3901 square kilometers, of which 478 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Brevard County , Indian River County , Okeechobee County , Polk County, and Orange County . Together with Lake , Orange and Seminole Counties , the county forms the Greater Orlando metropolitan area .
history
Osceola County was formed on May 12, 1887 from parts of Brevard County. It was named after the Indian chief Osceola. His name means something like singer of the black drink .

As of the 2010 census , Osceola County had 268,685 people in 127,764 households. The population density was 78.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 71.0% white, 11.3% African American , 0.5% American Indian and 2.8% Asian Americans . 10.4% were members of other races and 4.1% of different races. 45.5% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 23.6% of all households lived in 41.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 75.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.93 people and the average family size was 3.30 people.
29.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 16.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 36 years. 49.0% of the population were male and 51.0% were female.
The median income for a household in the 44,887 USD , while 16.0% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 55.48% of the population, 38.58% spoke Spanish and 5.94% had another mother tongue.
