The Bay County is a county in the US state of Florida . The county seat is Panama City .

The county has an area of 2,676 square kilometers, of which 698 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Jackson County , Calhoun County , Gulf County , Walton County, and Washington County .
The county is known as the Panama City Metropolitan Statistical Area by the Office of Management and Budget for statistical purposes .
history
On February 12, 1913, representatives from 5 cities of Saint Andrews Bay in Panama City met to find a name for the proposed new county. The name Bay County was agreed as this was the most characteristic of the territory.
On July 1, 1913, Bay County was then formed from parts of Washington County, Calhoun County and Walton County. The birth of the new county was duly celebrated in the city park. The city park is now known as "McKenzie Park".
The first meeting of the new administration took place on July 10, 1913 in rented rooms above the Bank of Panama City. The foundation stone for the new courthouse was laid in December 1914, which was completed in 1915. On December 20, 1920, it was almost completely destroyed by a strong fire, but it was rebuilt.
Parts of the 1,936 designated National Forest Apalachicola National Forest extend County.

According to the 2010 census , there were 168,852 people in 99,650 households in Bay County. The population density was 85.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 82.2% white, 10.8% African American , 0.7% Indian and 2.0% Asian Americans . 1.3% were members of other races and 3.1% of different races. 4.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 30.6% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 25.8% of all households. 65.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.41 people and the average family size was 2.92 people.
24.5% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 26.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 20.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 49.5% of the population were male and 50.5% were female.
The median income for a household in the 47,364 USD , while 13.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 92.29% of the population, 3.37% spoke Spanish and 4.34% had another mother tongue.
