The Nassau County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is in Fernandina Beach .

The county covers an area of 1,880 square kilometers, of which 192 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Duval County and Baker Counties . Together with the counties Baker, Clay , Duval and St. Johns , the county forms the metropolitan area Jacksonville .
history
Nassau County was formed on December 29, 1824 from parts of Duval County. It was named after the German Duchy of Nassau .

As of the 2010 census , Nassau County had 73,314 people in 34,950 households. The population density was 43.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 89.8% white, 6.4% African American , 0.4% American Indian and 0.9% Asian Americans . 1.0% were members of other races and 1.6% of different races. 3.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 30.8% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 29.4% of all households. 72.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.53 people and the average family size was 2.93 people.
24.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 23.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 43 years. 49.3% of the population were male and 50.7% were female.
The median income for a household in the 57,163 USD , while 11.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 95.73% of the population, 2.65% spoke Spanish and 1.62% had another mother tongue.
