Notes on the early settlement of the region from the 6th millennium BC Chr. The district was founded in 1844 under the name of Saint Lucia County . In 1855 it was changed to Brevard County. It was named after Theodore Washington Brevard , state controller in Florida from 1854 to 1860. According to the 2010 census , there were 543,367 people in 269,864 households in Brevard County. The population density was 206.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 83.0% white, 10.1% African American , 0.4% Native American and 1.0% Asian Americans . 1.8% were members of other races and 2.6% of different races. 8.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 34.2% of all households lived in 26.4% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 64.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.33 people and the average family size was 2.84 people.

22.3% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 20.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 27.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 46 years. 49.0% of the population were male and 51.0% were female.

The median income for a household in the 49,099 USD , while 12.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 90.20% of the population, 5.29% spoke Spanish and 4.51% had another mother tongue.
