Cape Canaveral is a city in Brevard County in the US state of Florida with 9912 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
The town of Cape Canaveral borders Cocoa Beach to the south and is located on the northern tip of the barrier islands on the Atlantic coast . It lies just south of the island Merritt Iceland situated Space Station Cape Canaveral Air Force Station , and Kennedy Space Center . The city is located about 30 km southeast of Titusville and about 80 km east of Orlando .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 9,912 inhabitants were distributed among 8,295 households. The population density was 1652 inhabitants / km². 92.9% of the population identified themselves as whites , 2.4% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.8% as Asian Americans . 0.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.7% to several ethnic groups. 5.7% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 33.6% of all households lived in 11.9% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 43.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.46 people and the average family size was 2.39 people.
11.3% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 20.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 33.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 34.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 51 years. 51.9% of the population were male and 48.1% were female.
The median annual income was $ 43,888, with 14.0% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.20% of the population, 4.30% spoke Spanish and 1.50% had another mother tongue.

Cape Canaveral is crossed by Florida State Road A1A . The nearest airport is Melbourne International Airport (around 40 km away). With Port Canaveral, the city has an important port for cruise ships, which take their passengers here for cruises to the Caribbean .
