Sharpes is a census-designated place (CDP) in Brevard County in the US state of Florida with a population of 3,411 (as of 2010).

Sharpes is located on the Indian River near the east coast of Florida and borders the city of Cocoa to the south . The CDP is about 10 km south of Titusville and about 60 km east of Orlando . It is crossed by US Highway 1 ( SR 5 ).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 3411 inhabitants were distributed over 1728 households. The population density was 443 inhabitants / km². 91.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 3.4% as African American , 0.9% as Indians and 0.6% as Asian Americans . 1.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.3% to several ethnic groups. 3.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 34.3% of all households lived in 23.9% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 61.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.32 people and the average family size was 2.81 people.

21.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 33.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 26.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 47 years. 51.6% of the population were male and 48.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 34,418, with 10.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 97.04% of the population, 2.18% spoke Spanish and 0.78% spoke German .
