Cocoa West is a census-designated place (CDP) in Brevard County in the US state of Florida with 5925 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Cocoa West is bordered by the cities of Cocoa and Rockledge . The CDP is located around 25 km south of Titusville and around 70 km east of Orlando . The place is on the Interstate 95 and the Florida State Roads 501 and 520 crosses or touches.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 5925 inhabitants were distributed over 2553 households. The population density was 533.8 inh / km². 47.7% of the population identified themselves as white, 41.3% as African American , 0.6% as Native American and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 6.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.8% to several ethnic groups. 10.3% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 36.2% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 26.0% of all households. 65.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.68 people and the average family size was 3.18 people.

29.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 17.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 48.1% of the population were male and 51.9% were female.

The median annual income was $ 22,913, with 30.2% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 98.18% of the population, 1.07% spoke Spanish and 0.76% had another mother tongue.
