Satellite Beach is a city in Brevard County in the US state of Florida with 10,109 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

The city lies between the Banana River in the west and the Atlantic Ocean in the east on Florida's east coast. To the south, the city of Indian Harbor Beach borders Satellite Beach. The city is located around 50 km south of Titusville and around 90 km southeast of Orlando .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 10,109 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 4,953 households. The population density was 1,330.1 inh / km². 92.9% of the population identified themselves as whites , 2.0% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.8% as Asian Americans . 0.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 5.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 28.2% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 33.7% of all households. 68.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.36 people and the average family size was 2.81 people.

22.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 18.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 31.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 27.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 46 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 61,712, with 5.8% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 95.83% of the population, 2.11% spoke Spanish and 2.06% had another mother tongue.

Satellite Beach is crossed by Florida State Roads A1A and 513 . The nearest airport is Melbourne International Airport (around 10 km southwest).

The crime rate in 2010 was 186 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There was one murder, three rapes, five robberies, 32 assaults, 49 break-ins, 121 thefts, and two car thefts.
