West Melbourne is a city in Brevard County in the US state of Florida with 18,355 inhabitants (as of 2010).

West Melbourne is bordered by the cities of Melbourne , Palm Bay and Melbourne Village . The city is located around 50 km south of Titusville and around 90 km southwest of Orlando .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 18,355 inhabitants were distributed over 8,881 households. The population density was 695.3 inh / km². 85.5% of the population identified themselves as whites , 4.9% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 5.0% as Asian Americans . 1.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.8% to several ethnic groups. 9.0% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 28.3% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 33.9% of all households. 63.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.34 people and the average family size was 2.89 people.

23.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 27.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 43 years. 47.6% of the population were male and 52.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 52,922, with 8.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 91.90% of the population, 5.75% spoke Spanish and 2.35% had another mother tongue.
