Alex Amsterdam (born October 22, 1980 in Bad Oeynhausen ; actually Alexander Rosin ) is a German singer-songwriter and musician.

Life

Alexander Rosin is the son of the children's songwriter Volker Rosin . At the age of four he stood in the studio for the first time to sing songs like The Crocodile of the Nile , My friend is called Alexander and Once upon a time there was an apple . These were also filmed for Die Sendung mit der Maus . Up to the age of 13 he worked on more than ten albums by his father. He later completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk .

At the beginning of January 2018, Alexander Rosin was sentenced to 15 months probation and a payment of 5,000 euros to the victim in Düsseldorf for violating personal rights.

Musical career

At the age of 19 he founded the band "Queen Mom" ​​(1999-2006), which laid the foundation for the typically catchy and British-influenced songwriting with its melodic alternative rock . After more than 100 appearances and five CD productions, Rosin left the band in 2006 and moved to Düsseldorf , where he gave himself the stage name Alex Amsterdam .

Musically it can be classified into the genres of singer-songwriter , indie , indie pop , pop & rock . He is often compared to artists like Passenger , Ed Sheeran , Frank Turner , Oasis , The Fray or Snow Patrol .

Since 2006 he has made around 600 appearances in Germany and Europe . His tours have taken him to Croatia , Italy , the Czech Republic , Austria , Switzerland , Belgium and the Netherlands, among others . He played with Train , Boyce Avenue , Kettcar , Tomte , Luxuslärm , Minus The Bear, La Vela Puerca , Auletta , Dendemann , Gisbert zu Knyphausen , Mikroboy , Bonaparte , Keith Caputo , Alberta Cross, Peter Green (ex- Fleetwood Mac ), Kilians , Heinz-Rudolf Kunze , Fools Garden , Erdmöbel , Fidget, Nils Koprauch , Fire in the Attic , Dota & die Stadtpiraten or Abi Wallenstein together.

After three CD releases in self-distribution, he signed a recording contract with the indie label Redfield Records in 2011 , on which the album Love is Fiction was released in 2012 . This production has been released on CD, LP and deluxe box including DVD.

The first single Riot Girl received radio airplay on u. a. on 1LIVE , WDR2 , SWR3 , Radio Fritz and NDR 2 . The second single, Better Off Alone , had over 328,000 hits on YouTube by December 2015 .

In 2013 Alex Amsterdam was supported and promoted by the Initiative Musik .

On January 23, 2015, Alex Amsterdam released his third studio album Come What May via Redfield Records. The album was released on CD, vinyl LP and MC in a limited edition . The first single Miss Rainbow reached number 71 on the Airplaycharts.

After Alex Amsterdam was initially on the road solo, in 2008 he got support from keyboardist Simon Horn, who also produced the EP The Die is Cast (2009). After Horn's departure in mid-2010, Alex Amsterdam decided to put together a complete band line-up. With the musicians Sabrina Maack ( drums ), Thomas Palenberg ( bass ) and Marc Aretz ( guitar ) he was on the road from 2010 to 2012 and released the album Love is Fiction with them , produced by Tobias Röger.

Since mid-2013 he has been back as a solo artist.
