Frank Turner
Francis Edward "Frank" Turner (born December 28, 1981 in Muharraq , Bahrain ) is a British musician .
Career
Growing up in Winchester , England , Turner attended Eton College and joined the punk band Million Dead in 2001 as a singer , with whom he released two studio albums and several singles / EPs. At the same time he studied at the London School of Economics , where he obtained a bachelor's degree in European history.
Since the band left in 2005, Turner has been a solo singer-songwriter , whose music has clear influences from folk rock and punk . His first album, Sleep Is for the Week , was released in the UK in January 2007 and received mostly positive feedback from the local music press. Its successor Love Ire & Song was published in March 2008 and was re-released in summer 2009 in German-speaking countries. He achieved his first major commercial success with the album The First Three Years , released in December 2008 , a compilation of songs from singles and EPs from Turner's first solo years, which reached number 72 in the British album charts. His third studio album Poetry of the Deed , which was released in September 2009, also reached the British charts and was able to advance to number 36 there. At the end of 2010 an EP was released with the title Rock & Roll ; in June 2011 the album England Keep My Bones , which reached number 12 in the UK charts. A second collection of singles and B-sides called The Second Three Years was released later in the year . On July 27, 2012, Turner and his band performed at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London's Olympic Stadium in front of around 80,000 spectators and a global TV audience. In April 2013 his fifth studio album Tape Deck Heart was released , which was produced by Rich Costey and recorded for the first time outside of the United Kingdom (namely in California). The album represents his greatest commercial success to date and reached number 2 in Great Britain and the charts in other European countries and the United States.
Turner usually plays his concerts with his band The Sleeping Souls , which for several years now has consisted of Ben Lloyd (guitar), Matt Nasir (keyboard), Tarrant Anderson (bass) and Nigel Powell (drums). Occasionally he also appears solo.
One of Frank Turner's side projects is called " Möngöl Hörde " - a hardcore punk band consisting of Matt Nasir (guitar) and Ben Dawson (drums). Since the studio album of the same name was released in 2014, the formation has performed live every now and then. At Turner's request, the project and the album will not be marketed effectively.
Turner dedicated the 13 songs on his album No Man's Land (2019) to exceptional women such as Rosetta Tharpe , Hudā Schaʿrāwī , Mata Hari and Christa McAuliffe . The album was produced by the Australian Catherine Marks .
