The Kilians (until 2007: The Kilians ) were a German indie rock band from Dinslaken .

Band history

The Kilians emerged from a loose association of music-loving students in Dinslaken and initially called themselves "The Rivets". The first demo recording was made under this name in autumn 2005 . At this time the line-up solidified and the band recorded their first EP of the same name as "The Kilians". At the beginning of 2006, the song Jealous Lover placed in the campus charts and climbed to 3rd place.

The band caught the attention of her manager later Thees Uhlmann , who invited them at the 2006 spring tour of his band Tomte seven nights as a support act to play. During this tour, the band sold 700 copies of their first EP.

In August 2006 the band toured Germany in a bus sponsored by the beverage manufacturer Red Bull and played smaller gigs on the campsites of music festivals . On April 17, 2007 the major label Vertigo Berlin ( Universal ) released Fight the Start, the group's first official EP, which in the course of this release did without the article “The” in the band name and from then on only appeared as “Kilians”.

In the summer of 2007 the band toured Germany and played at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park , among others .

The debut album Kill the Kilians was released on September 7th and entered the German charts at number 75 . In the same year the Kilians were nominated for the 1Live Krone in the category "Best Newcomer" and took second place.

In December 2007 the Kilians accompanied Björn Dixgård ( Mando Diao ) on his solo tour through Germany and were the opening act for three German concerts of the Babyshambles in January and February 2008. At the beginning of 2009 they accompanied this band again on Germany tour.

The second album They Are Calling Your Name was released on April 10, 2009, the pre- single Said & Done was released on April 3, 2009 and was able to place in the German single charts.

From August 25, 2009 the Kilians accompanied Coldplay on their tour through Germany, starting in Hanover, for three concerts ( Hanover , Düsseldorf and Munich ).

In March 2010 the Kilians were guests at the SXSW festival in Austin , USA , after which singer Simon den Hartog toured solo in April as support for the Australian band An Horse . The other band members mostly devoted themselves to their studies. In August 2012 the band released the third album called Lines You Should Not Cross . The album appears for the first time on Grand Hotel van Cleef .

In 2012, pop rapper Cro Fight the Start sampled the Kilians for the song Once Around the World . This will be the most downloaded track on the Raop album on iTunes and Amazon .

On August 1, 2013, the record company Grand Hotel van Cleef announced on Facebook and on its website that the Kilians would split up after a farewell tour in December 2013.

On March 2, 2017, the band's record company announced via Facebook that the band would go on a small tour with six dates in June 2017 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of their debut album Kill the Kilians .
