The Grand Hotel van Cleef ( GHvC for short ) is a German independent label from St. Pauli , Hamburg .

history

It was founded in September 2002 by the musicians Thees Uhlmann , Marcus Wiebusch and Reimer Bustorff . The newly founded band Kettcar , in which Wiebusch and Bustorff played, had recently recorded their first album Du und wieviel von dein Freunde , but couldn't find a label to release it. It was also clear that Uhlmann's band Tomte would shortly be completing their third album Behind all these Windows . The huge popularity of the fans even before the release was the decisive factor in founding the label.

The name came out of a joke: When Thees Uhlmann asked how you could call your own label, ex-Tomte drummer Timo Bodenstein replied “Hotel van Cleef” - he came from a restaurant scene and it should mean something with gastronomy. So then Tomte's label was called Hotel van Cleef . Through the merger with Marcus Wiebusch's BA Records , it was renamed Grand Hotel van Cleef .

In 2004 the musicians Thees Uhlmann , Marcus Wiebusch , Felix Gebhard and Max Schröder , who are with their bands at the Grand Hotel Van Cleef, together with actor Jürgen Vogel for the film No Songs About Love formed the Hansen Band , which later also went on tour through Germany went.

The label's biggest chart successes were the release of Letters over the City by the band Tomte and Thees Uhlmann by Thees Uhlmann , both in fourth place, and the releases Von Spatzen und Tauben, Dächern und Hands , Sylt and Zwischen den Runden by the band Kettcar , respectively reached fifth place. The Hansen Band , Olli Schulz and the dog Marie , Young Rebel Set and Kilians were also able to achieve chart successes with the Grand Hotel van Cleef.

On August 26, 2012 the label celebrated its tenth birthday with a concert evening on the trotting track in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld. In addition to Kettcar and Tomte (in the original line-up), the GHvC acts Kilians , Thees Uhlmann & Band , Young Rebel Set and Hansen Band as well as Casper as a fan of the label and good friend of Thees Uhlmann were also there.

On November 26, 2012, the label was awarded the HANS music prize as the best Hamburg label of 2012.

In 2016, the label generated a profit of 117,000 euros on sales of one million euros.

On August 18, 2017, the label celebrated its 15th birthday with an edition of the Fest van Cleef at the wholesale market in Hamburg-Hammerbrook. In addition to Kettcar and Thees Uhlmann & Band, the GHvC act Fortuna Ehrenfeld and Gisbert zu Knyphausen were there .

Feast van Cleef

Since 2006, the label has been organizing its own festival called Fest van Cleef , which was held under the name Simon for the first time , and six bands from the label and / or the festival were held on three consecutive days in three different cities befriended bands perform. In 2010 the Fest van Cleef took place for the first time not as open air in summer, but in December. In addition, the line-up was enlarged and two stages were played in parallel.
