Escapado was a German hardcore punk group from Flensburg and Kiel, founded in 2002 .

history

In the late summer of 2002, the Husum band Quaint, consisting of Helge Jensen (vocals), Jan Misdorf (guitar), Sebastian Henkelmann (bass, vocals) and Christoph Voss (drums), renamed itself to Escapado in order to encourage musical development towards punk / hardcore to make clear by name. Until the summer of 2003, however, old Quaint songs were also played at concerts .

In December 2002 Escapado recorded a demo CD called Let your Sehnsucht run free , during which the band played several concerts, mainly in Schleswig-Holstein . As a result, the two local DIY labels Zeitstrafe and Alerta Antifascista became aware of Escapado, who then jointly released the first 7 " and the first LP Hinter den Spiegel .

The self-titled first 7 "was recorded in autumn 2003 with Hauke Albrecht and Nils Mommsen in the Plan12 studio in Norstedt near Husum. A single edition of 510 copies was pressed. After the 7" was released, the band played concerts in Germany; Sebastian Henkelmann switched to guitar in April 2004 after Lars Nissen joined the group as bassist, so that there were five of Escapado's. With this line-up, the LP Behind the Mirrors was recorded again in August 2004 in the Plan12 studio and with Hauke Albrecht at the controls . The LP was released in January 2005 - initially exclusively on vinyl, a few months later also as a CD with the songs of the 7 "as a bonus. In September 2005 guitarist Jan Misdorf left. Escapado continued with the four of them.

In August 2006, in collaboration with Hauke Albrecht, the recordings for the second album began, which lasted until spring 2007. In October 2006 bassist Lars Nissen announced his departure. A replacement was found in Gunnar Vosgröne. The second album Initiale was released in 2007 on the Grand Hotel van Cleef label , the vinyl version, however, at Zeitstrafe .

In the spring of 2009, singer Helge and bassist Gunnar left the band. The three of them now worked with Felix as bassist, he also became a singer. Johannes joined the band as bass player in 2010. Songs for the third album Montgomery Mundtot recorded the band in recording studio 45 at Blackmail , which was released in October 2010.

In a statement on November 22, 2011, the band announced their breakup.

style

Stylistically, the band moves in the area of hardcore punk , with parts of their pieces being post-hardcore , punk and screamo-heavy . The pieces often come across as cacophonic and chaotic. The guitar playing is very changeable. Vocally, screaming parts alternate with short spoken or sung passages, some of which are brutal. In terms of content, topics related to everyday life , love and interpersonal relationships predominate , although Escapado have a (left) political claim.

The then popular (free) music magazine Uncle Sally's said to the band: "German-speaking hardcore with a lot of demands. Soulmates are Kurhaus, Yage and At the Drive-In . With a lot of violence and just as much feeling, Escapado put their dissecting knife on the beast of reality."
