Imaginary Cities are a Canadian indie soul duo from Winnipeg .

history

Singer Marti Sarbit and multi-instrumentalist Rusty Matyas met in 2009 at The Cavern , a club in Winnipeg where Marti Sarbit played with her Motownco association. Rusty Matyas, who is a live guitarist with the Canadian band The Weakerthans , was the live mixer for the band that evening. From that moment they merged under the name Imaginary Cities . They produced their debut album Temporary Resident in 2010 . The single Hummingbird heralded the album and topped the Canadian college charts.

A tour of Canada followed. The Hamburg indie label Grand Hotel van Cleef became aware of the duo at the end of 2010. The band was on tour through Europe from the end of January to mid-February. The album 'Temporary Resident' was released in Canada at the end of January and on March 25, 2011 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

On the special version of the album Thees Uhlmann of Thees Uhlmann is an English version of the song is to spawn and die drag the salmon up the river , singing at the singer Marti Sarbit as duet partner of Thees Uhlmann. There is also a cover version of the song Hummingbird , sung and played by Thees Uhlmann and Simon Frontzek. The two songs are also part of the 7 "single To Mate & To Die Salmons Swims Upstream , which was already released in the course of the Thees Uhlmann - Canada tour in July 2011 and will be distributed in Germany for the record store week 2011. Imaginary Cities were in October 2011 on tour with Thees Uhlmann.

In July 2016, the duo announced that they would put their activities on hold in favor of further projects. As a farewell, they released with the EP Leftovers previously unreleased material from the records of the previous album Fall of Romance .
