The Immergut Festival is a German music festival in Neustrelitz , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It has taken place annually since 2000, mostly on the last weekend in May, and has meanwhile become a permanent fixture in the field of music and festival events as well as for the Mecklenburg-Strelitz region and the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Behind the festival is the volunteer association Immergutrocken eV based in Neustrelitz, which takes on the planning, organization and implementation of the Immergut Festival and the theater evening "Immergut in the Great House".

history

The first edition of the Immergut Festival took place in 2000 on the grounds of the Neustrelitz district office. It was founded by the Neustrelitz initiators Mirko Wegner and Daniel Kempf, who wanted to liven up the pop-cultural wasteland of Mecklenburg / Western Pomerania and at the same time to establish a kind of scene meeting for the German indie cosmos. Around 1000 visitors took part in this first edition. The soccer tournament “Immergutzocken” took place for the first time at the start of the festival and has traditionally been part of the Saturday morning program of the Immergut Festival. At the tournament, after qualifying beforehand, visitors have the opportunity to compete against members of the organizational group, media representatives and bands.

The festival quickly grew from a local size to a household name in the German festival calendar and has since marked the beginning of the festival season. In 2001 the festival grew to around 3000 visitors. In the following year the number of visitors was increased a bit, so that the number of visitors increased to 4000 and the festival was sold out for the first time with this number. Also in 2002 was founded from the sworn circle of friends of the initiators, the association, which still operates as a non-profit organization, to this day

After the growth of the first few years and renovations at the old location, a move was inevitable. Since 2003, a larger area with space for up to 5000 visitors just outside Neustrelitz on the Bürgerseeweg has been the home of the Immergut Festival. The number of tickets is deliberately kept at this low level for festival conditions in order to be able to maintain the often-vaunted familiarity and secure organization.

After the festival brought together the greats of the German indie scene on site in the first few years, international bands of the genre have been increasingly booked since 2004. For the ninth edition on the Thursday before the Immergut Festival 2008, readers were invited for the first time, who appeared in front of the audience at live readings and presented their works as part of the festival. This program expansion has been an integral part of the booking process since 2010. A new stage was set up in 2010 for readings, acoustic musical contributions and DJ sets at night. With the intimate birch grove, the Immergut Festival unites three different venues (forest stage, tent stage, birch grove) for its program on the festival site on Bürgerseeweg.

In addition to the readings, exhibitions of the fine arts under the name "Kunz" have been part of the program of the Immergut Festival since 2009. "Back then, people from the association came up with small projects that should have something to do with the Immergut and the region". In the meantime, every year artists from outside the association or artist collectives can apply with ideas to exhibit their works on the festival site and thus become part of the Immergut Festival as part of the “Kunz” exhibitions.

The tenth anniversary of the festival in 2009 was accompanied by a film crew directed by Hagen Decker. The music documentary "Immergut - Der Film" shows "cinema images, entertaining anecdotes, interviews with the makers, the bands, the periphery and of course the fans" and thus captures moments behind and in front of the stage.

Since 2012, the Immergutrocken eV has organized the “Immergut im Großes Haus” theater evening in addition to the Immergut Festival. In cooperation with the Landestheater Neustrelitz , the Immergutrocken eV translates the festival feeling into the more classic ambience of the Landestheater and thus brings together people from Neustrelitz and festival visitors from all over Germany. “In the still young tradition, the Immergut artists and visitors turned the Neustrelitz theater into a concert hall, then into a scene club or, as in [2013] with the techno trio ' Fraktus ', first into a cinema and then into a large-scale disco ". The independent event always takes place on the evening before the Immergut Festival.

On the occasion of the festival's 20th birthday, there were 3 festival days instead of 2 in 2019. This was made possible by funding the Music Initiative, which was awarded under the motto “Music with attitude”. Thus, on the Thursday of the festival 2019, bands could be seen who convey clear points of view through their music. In addition to various musical contributions, there were also panels and lectures on this very topic for the first time.

The association - immergutrocken eV

The non-profit association Immergutrocken eV was founded in 2002 by a sworn group of friends from Neustrelitz. The association, based in Neustrelitz, aims to increase the musical diversity in the city and in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and, in particular, to enrich it with musical offers for young people. The main tasks of the association are the planning, organization and implementation of the annual Immergut Festival and the theater evening “Immergut in the Great House”.

Since the 2015/16 school year, immergutrocken eV has been running a project subject in cooperation with the Carolinum Neustrelitz grammar school , where students can look behind the scenes of the festival organization and take part in the festival with smaller projects. The project subject serves, among other things, for professional orientation and is intended to counteract any fear of contact with voluntary work.
