Sofaplanet was a German band from Berlin .

history

Sofaplanet emerged in 1998 from the school band Shaped Waters by Sven Rathke , Jakob Großmann and Jan Kertscher. In 1999 the band released their first sound carrier under the name Sofaplanet with the title So much future nobody needs . Sofaplanet signed a record deal with X-Cell Records and started recording a new album in Brussels . In May 2000, bassist Jakob Großmann left the band. However, Kerscher and Rathke continued to work together on new recordings in Hamburg . The bass on these recordings was played by Ian O'Brien-Docker , a friend of Sofaplanet producer Franz Plasa and Tobias Siebert from the band Delbo . The rest of the recordings continued with the new member Martin Gottschild .

The results of the work appeared in 2001 on the album Sternzahl infinite . Two tracks with Jakob Großmann on bass also found their way onto the record. The label chose the song Liebficken as the first single, which did not reflect the style of the rest of the songs on the album. Liebficken became a hit and entered the German single charts at number 13 in the first week after its release. The album later also hit the charts. Sofaplanet appeared in many television shows (including Top of the Pops and The Dome ) and were featured in Bravo a few times . From the point of view of the band, a difficult time began: Most people reduced the band to just loving , many fans from the very beginning turned away from the band.

For the second single, X-Cell Records requested a new recording of the song Never Again , which sounds more like bands like Die Ärzte . Sofaplanet reluctantly implemented this. The accompanying video was rejected by MTV and VIVA or only shown rarely and at night, which is why X-Cell Records saw no chance of a hit and ended the project. The video for Two Are Important , made by Sofaplanet in October 2001, was not even presented to the music broadcasters by the label. Despite their dissatisfaction, Sofaplanet extended their contract with X-Cell Records in September 2002. However, the label did not see any "hits" on the following demo recordings. It was only in 2003 that Sofaplanet could withdraw from the contract.

In October 2002 Sofaplanet recorded a 3-track EP with Tobias Siebert, which was sold at concerts. The new album Power to the Poeble was recorded together with producer Steve Cooper and released in 2004 on Wannsee Records, but could not build on the success of Sternzahl infinitely . The band Sofaplanet has been officially on hold since 2005. The band members are still active in the Beatplanet project, which was founded in 2003 . Sven Rathke also began a solo career under the pseudonym Sven van Thom .
