biography

Ian O'Brien-Docker grew up in Hamburg with Irish-Canadian parents. His father John O'Brien-Docker (1938-2017) was also a musician and known in the 1960s for the band The City Preachers . Ian O'Brien-Docker still lives in Hamburg today. He sings, writes, composes and plays four instruments (drums, piano, guitar, bass).

Music played a large part in O'Brien-Docker's life. At the age of three he was already enjoying himself playing his father's drums in his recording studio in the basement of his house, at six he switched to the piano and took classical lessons. When he was 13 years old, he discovered the guitar and rock 'n' roll . And so he began to work in various studios after graduating from high school.

Before his solo career, Ian O'Brien-Docker was guitarist and co-writer for Kid Alex , he also produced and composed for other artists with his production partner David Jost , and remixed songs for Rio Reiser . O'Brien-Docker's label then switched to EMI or Virgin Group . His album Sometimes I Wish I Had a Terrible Childhood So That at Least I'd Have an Excuse , released on February 23, 2007, was single- handedly recorded, produced, played and written. It was mixed by his studio neighbor DIM and himself.

Vanity Fair magazine uses the title Vanity Fair from its album as its campaign song.

He is co-writer of the track “22nd Century” on Kelis's current album “Fleshtone”.

In 2019 he composed the accompanying music for the Edeka commercial "The Most Important Ingredient".
