Nada Surf is an American alternative rock band from New York .

history

Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca met as students at the Lycée Français de New York private school . After graduating from high school in 1991, they formed the band Because, Because, Because. In 1992 they turned to a new project that they named Nada Surf. 1995 Aaron Conte left the band and was replaced by Ira Elliot. In 2012 Doug Gillard joined the band as the fourth permanent member.

With the single Popular from their debut album High / Low from 1996, they achieved some public success. High / Low itself reached number 63 on the US Billboard charts. Problems with the record company meant that the second album The Proximity Effect in 1998 was only released in Europe. But even here the album was not particularly marketed despite good reviews, which is why it was largely unsuccessful. The band then bought back the rights to the album and released it on their own label MarDev.

In 2002 the album Let Go was released on a new record label , which also contains a French title Là pour ça . This is also an indication that Nada Surf has a relatively large fan base in France . The album's song Inside of Love reached 73rd place on the UK charts. In addition to the mere chart success, the band gained a loyal and enthusiastic fan base with Let Go , especially in Germany, and helped themselves to a status as heroes of the indie scene . Also appearances z. B. in the opening program of Sportfreunde Stiller in the Munich Olympiahalle or in front of Wir sind Helden in Berlin's Wuhlheide, Nada Surf achieved a relatively high level of awareness and popularity. In Europe, her records appear on City Slang , including her fifth studio album, Lucky , which was released in early 2008.

On May 7, 2010, Nada Surf's sixth studio album, If I Had a Hi-Fi, was released . It consists of 12 cover versions , u. a. from Depeche Mode and Kate Bush titles. In January 2012 the band released an album with their own compositions, The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy .

Use of Nada Surf titles in film and television productions

In the films Regret Nothing , The Fat Years Are Over , Lovesong used for Bobby Long and Sommersturm . In the comedy film Oh Boy , the song Teenage Dreams runs in the background during the bar scene in which Niko meets his former classmate Julika . Nada Surf's music was also used in TV series . For example in OC, California . There the cover song If You Leave was used. The song Inside of Love appears in an episode of the first season of the American series How I Met Your Mother . The songs Always Love and Beautiful Beat followed in further episodes . In the also US-American series One Tree Hill some tracks could be heard and in the third season they had an appearance on the series in which they played Concrete Bed . In the film Disturbia , the song Always Love from the album The Weight Is a Gift is played at one point . The piece is also included on the soundtrack CD for the film.
