Sportfreunde Stiller is a German indie rock - group from Germering in Munich .

Band history

The band, which originally suggested the name "Bodden" (after the former striker of TSV 1860 Munich , Olaf Bodden ), performed in the line-up of Peter Brugger (guitar, vocals), Florian Weber (drums, vocals) and Andi Erhard (bass ) In 1995 for the first time under the name "Stiller". The band was named after Hans Stiller, coach of the district league team SV Germering , in which Peter and Florian played football for a long time. Peter Brugger had previously played as a drummer and singer in the band Projekt Paul , together with Florian Zwietnig (later with the Mediengruppe Telekommander ) and Oliver Pade (now with the band Faun ).

The band is managed by Marc Liebscher (Blickpunkt Pop), it is produced by Uwe Hoffmann . Rüdiger Linhof later joined Andi Erhard as bassist and keyboardist . A few years after it was founded, the band had to rename itself to Sportfreunde Stiller for legal reasons , as there was already a Hamburg band called "Stiller". The group's first album, Just Like Real Madrid , was released in 2000. The single Independent from the second studio album The Good Side can be found on the soundtrack to the football computer game FIFA 03. In 2004 her third studio album Burli der Germeringer was released, followed in November by her first live CD.

In the summer of 2005, the indie rock band played in smaller clubs under various secret names (e.g. as The Dinozoffs in Munich and The Kaltz Mannis in Frankfurt). At these concerts she also introduced new songs such as Die Nacht to the audience . In autumn 2005 she played another secret concert in Nuremberg. She first played under the name The a Roth's in '54, '74, '90, 2006 . In October 2007 she was a surprise guest at the Conrad Sohm in Dornbirn.

On June 14, 2007, Sportfreunde Stiller gave a surprise concert at the University of Munich , but had to end the concert after the police appeared. The band gave another surprise appearance on July 14, 2007 at the Sonnenrot Festival in Geretsried : there they spontaneously jumped for the sick band. Ready, go! one, which is also looked after by manager Marc Liebscher.

Well-known songs of the band are z. B. Surfing 54 , A compliment , Me Roque , Is that how you see it? , Applause, applause or '54, '74, '90, 2006 . The members of the Sportfreunde are outright football fans of the Munich clubs FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich , which is also reflected in their music: Ich, Roque is a play on words (“I rock”) with the name of the former Bayern striker Roque Santa Cruz and the TSV 1860 Munich player, Benjamin Lauth , is honored in the song Lauth Listening to .

On May 19, 2006 the Sportfreunde brought their album You Have to Win Zweikampf on the market. It is a pure football album. The first single from the album '54, '74, '90, 2006 was her biggest success so far. The song made it to number one in the German singles charts , was often sung by fans of the German national soccer team in stadiums and at fan festivals at the 2006 World Cup, and the band also performed with the piece on numerous television broadcasts for the World Cup. The song was presented for the first time during the half-time break of the soccer game TSV 1860 Munich against 1. FC Saarbrücken . There are ten other titles on the football album, such as Our friend is made of leather or The Fritz his weather . The piece Pogo in Togo is covered by the band United Balls (1981).

Since the German national soccer team did not reach the final at the 2006 World Cup, Sportfreunde Stiller has composed and published their title '54, '74, '90, 2006 in '54, '74, '90, 2010, which was composed and published for the 2006 World Cup changed. The band made the new version available on their website for a few days. This new variant of the song was recorded beforehand in the studio and was not originally intended to be published.

On July 20, 2007 Alles Roger was released , the first single from the studio album La Bum , which followed on August 3 . The album went straight to number 1 in the German album charts the week after it was released.

At the Bundesvision Song Contest 2008 , the band took 10th place for their state Bavaria with the song Antinazibund .

In mid-January 2009, Sportfreunde recorded an MTV Unplugged concert as the sixth German band in a New York setting in the Bavaria film studios . The concert was broadcast in abbreviated form on May 21, 2009 on MTV for the first time, one day later it was released as an album. On May 8th, 2009 the unplugged single A Compliment including a video from the concert was released. In interviews after the release of the live album MTV Unplugged in New York , Sportfreunde Stiller announced that he wanted to take a longer break.
