Bolzplatz Heroes was a German music group from Munich founded in 2003 , whose members mostly played in parallel with indie rock bands in the area.

history

The band was founded in 2003. Three of the four members of the band already played in other bands: Florian Weber played drums with Sportfreunde Stiller , Markus Schäfer founded Cosmic Casino and Martin Messerschmidt played drums with The Notwist when the band was founded and was the drummer from 2006 with the band Schweisser . The fourth member, Jörg Weber, was Florian Weber's brother and full-time lecturer at a music college. The name came to Florian and Markus in the Atomic Café in Munich while drunk. Schäfer said: "We thought it was funny when you pronounce it in Bavarian / English." One of the members' basic ideas was that nobody should play the same instrument as in his main band, which was only realized for singer Weber and guitarist Schäfer.

Since the members of the band were busy with their respective main bands when they were founded, it took three years before the album Bolzplatz Heroes was released. It was produced by bassist Weber. After 2006, the band stopped appearing.

Style and reception

The Süddeutsche Zeitung places the musical role models of the band around 1990 in the form of rock and post-hardcore bands such as Quicksand , Helmet (band) or Fugazi . The band itself gives Quicksand and Helmet as influences, but points out that the style of the album has changed in the course of the creative process and was further developed in particular by bassist Weber, who has a background as a jazz musician. The Berliner Tagesspiegel described the band as “a kind of fun band after work”, but against the background that they are professional musicians. The newspaper felt that the music on the band's album was reminiscent of “old times” in youth or rock clubs and warned that the music would only be enjoyed after repeated consumption.
