Quicksand is an influential American post-hardcore and hardcore band from New York City of the 1990s . The group has split up twice so far and met a third time in 2012.
history
The band members are Walter Schreifels , Tom Capone, Sergio Vega and Alan Cage. After leaving the Gorilla Biscuits , Schreifels founded the Moondog project in 1989 together with the Gorilla Biscuits drummer Luke Abbey and a few others , to which the guitarist Tom Capone also belonged. After a short time and a few line-up changes, this project became Quicksand. In 1993 the group's first album, Slip , was released on Polydor Records . Two years later, Manic Compression followed , which was released by Island Records and made it to number 135 in the American album charts. Both works were recorded with producer Don Fury .
The band split in 1995, and a reunion in 1997 proved short-lived.
Bandleader Walter Schreifels later founded the group Rival Schools . Vega tried himself as a solo artist, from 2008 with the Deftones as a replacement for Chi Cheng, while Capone and Cage joined other, less well-known bands.
The musicians have been active again with Quicksand since 2012. The group played at the Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium in 2013 and at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park in 2014 .
style
Compared to the NY hardcore sound, which was influenced by punk, Quicksand's songs were musically more demanding, longer and characterized by frequent changes in tempo. In addition there was the characteristic singing of Walter Schreifels, which was often brushed against the rhythm and melody of the songs.
