The Tippeligaen 1996 was the 52nd season of the highest Norwegian football league and the sixth season under the name Tippeligaen . The season started on April 13, 1996 and ended on October 20, 1996.

Season course

Rosenborg BK won the Norwegian championship for the fifth time in a row. You set a new record. It was also the eleventh championship for Rosenborg BK. At the beginning of the season there was a duel with Lillestrøm SK . They took turns at the top several times until, after the 10th match day, Rosenborg BK finally took over the lead in the standings and expanded its lead to 16 points. Already after the 22nd matchday they had secured the championship early. Tromsø IL won the cup competition for the second time after 1986. The promoted Skeid Oslo and Strømsgodset IF were able to hold out in the Tippeligaen . Only the third promoted Moss FK had to relegate to the 1st division.
