The Norgesserien 1947/48 was the first official football championship in Norway after the Second World War . It was the fourth league championship overall, but only the third that was played to the end. The occupation of Norway by German troops on April 9, 1940 led to the cancellation of the championship that was running at the time. Due to a sports strike in which all Norwegian football clubs took part, no more championships were held during the war.
The teams were divided into eight districts (I-VIII). There were eleven groups in total, as three districts were divided into two groups (II A, II B, IV A, IV B, VA, VB). The winners of the groups were determined in a normal round of play with two legs. These then played out the champions in a knockout round. The districts with two groups determined the respective quarter-finals with a round trip.
This season was also the qualification for the two-track Hovedserien starting next season , which replaced the current championship form. There were different qualification modes in the individual district groups: one group (I) was allowed to send three teams into the new league; groups II A, II B, IV A and IV B each have two, groups VB, VI and VIII each have one. The participants in groups III, VA and VII had no qualifications. It was curious that the winners of these groups had to play for the championship and then against relegation at the same time.
In addition, there were the relegation games in two groups, whose participants qualified according to the following placement in the district groups: the group leaders of groups III, VA, VII; the runners-up of groups VB, VI, VIII; the third group in groups II A and II B and the fourth group in group I. Groups IV A and IV B had no relegation participants.
In the two relegation groups of four teams each, only the respective group winner reached the Hovedserien 1948/49 .
