The 1. Divisjon 1965 was the 21st season of the highest Norwegian football league and the third season under the name 1. Divisjon . The season began on April 23, 1965 and ended on October 10, 1965.

The 10 teams played against each other in a simple game round with a return game, so that each team played 18 games. Champion was the leader after the last match day. The last two teams had to be relegated.

Vålerengens IF became Norwegian champions for the first time.

At the beginning of the season, last year's champions were still ahead. Up to the tenth match day, the lead changed between Lyn and Vålerengen back and forth. After that, Vålerengen stayed in front until the end of the season. However, they were never more than four points ahead.

The two promoted Odds BK and Steinkjer IFK were able to stay in the league.
