European Champion Clubs' Cup 1965/66

The European Cup of National Champions 1966/67 was the 12th edition of the competition. 33 club teams took part, including 32 national champions from the previous season and the defending champions with Real Madrid . For the first time a team from the Soviet Union took part in the competition.

The participants played in a pure cup mode with (except for the finals) back and forth games for the crown of European club football. In the event of a tie, there was a playoff in a neutral place. Because of the new participation record of 33 teams, four teams had to start in a newly created qualifying round. Except Real Madrid, all other teams then started in the first main round.

The final took place on May 25, 1967 in the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras near Lisbon in front of 45,000 spectators. Celtic Glasgow won the cup for the first time 2-1 against Inter Milan , making them the first non-southern European club to win the title. The top scorer was Paul Van Himst from RSC Anderlecht and Jürgen Piepenburg from FC Vorwärts Berlin with six goals each.
