Charles "Charlie" Gallagher (born November 3, 1940 in Gorbals , Glasgow ) is a former Irish football player . With Celtic Glasgow he won the Scottish Championship five times, the Cup three times and the League Cup five times in the 1960s . In 1967 he won with Celtic as part of the Lisbon Lions in the final of the European Cup against Inter Milan .

Charlie Gallagher was born the son of Irish immigrants in 1940 in Gorbals , a district of the Scottish metropolis of Glasgow . Gallagher attended Holyrood Secondary School with his cousin Pat Crerand . He began his career in the 1950s at Yoker Athletic from the borough of the same name. In September 1958, Gallagher moved to Celtic Glasgow . The striker made his professional debut at Celtic at the age of 18 in August 1959 in the League Cup against the Raith Rovers . During his time at Celtic , he was considered an unspectacular player with a good passing game and a hard shot. His team play made him popular with his teammates and fans. Gallagher won numerous titles with Celtic including five Scottish championships , three trophies and five league cups . The greatest success was the victory in the final of the European Cup against Inter Milan in 1967. For the Bhoys he completed 32 goals in a total of 171 competitive games by 1970. In May 1970 he moved to the second division club FC Dumbarton . In his second season in Dumbarton he was able to celebrate promotion to the first division. At the end of the 1972/73 season he ended his career as an active player. Between 1976 and 1978 he worked as a scout for Celtic . Gallagher later worked as a taxi driver .

As the son of Irish parents who came from Donegal , Gallagher was the first native of Scots to complete international matches for the selection of Ireland .
