Lisbon Lions

Celtic Glasgow

The Lisbon Lions (German: Lisbon Lion ) is the nickname given to the team from Celtic Glasgow , which won the European Cup at the Estádio Nacional in Lisbon, Portugal on May 25, 1967 against Inter Milan 2-1. All players are within a radius of 30 miles (48 km) to Glasgow ( Scotland born). This makes Celtic, together with the European Cup team of 1. FC Magdeburg 1974, the only club in European football history that was able to win the cup with a completely local team.

Celtic's style was the antithesis of the cynical but highly effective defensively oriented style known as " Catenaccio " that Inter was practicing at the time. Jimmy Johnstone described the Scots' style of play as "like the Dutch speeded-up", comparing them to an accelerated version of Dutch total football .
