Sean Fallon ( Irish Seán Ó Fallúin ; born July 31, 1922 in Sligo , † January 18, 2013 ) was an Irish football player , coach and Gaelic football player.

Athletic career

Soccer

Fallon began his career with resumption of gaming after World War II at Longford Town . After a short time at Sligo Distillery , he moved to Sligo Rovers in 1948 , who had just been re-accepted into the League of Ireland . In 1949 he moved to the Northern Irish club Glenavon FC , which he only remained loyal to for one season.

After Fallon was noticed at a game of a selection of the Northern Irish League Association against a selection of the Irish League Association in March 1950, the Scottish club Celtic Glasgow signed the defender . In his debut season he won the final of the Scottish FA Cup with the club against FC Motherwell . Meanwhile incapacitated by a broken collarbone , he won the double with the club in 1954 and in 1957 - with a 7-1 final victory over local rivals Glasgow Rangers - and in 1958 the Scottish League Cup . He then ended his active career due to an injury, during which he played eight international matches for the Irish national team .

Fallon was later a member of the Celtic coaching staff under Jimmy McGrory . When he handed over to Jock Stein in 1965 , he became his assistant. Two years later he was an assistant coach to the Lisbon Lions , who brought the European Cup to Scotland in 1966/67 . In 1975 he briefly took over as a coach from Stein when he had to take a break after a car accident. In 1980 he briefly trained as head coach for FC Dumbarton .

Gaelic football

From 1946 to 1948 Fallon played Gaelic football for Craobh Rua in Sligo. He scored two goals in the April 1948 Sligo game against Kerry in the quarterfinals of the National Football League .
