James Edward "Jimmy" McGrory (born April 26, 1904 in Glasgow , Scotland , † October 20, 1982 ) was one of the most renowned goalscorer in Scottish football history and is considered one of the best Celtic Glasgow players of all time.

He moved from St Rochs to Celtic in 1922. For the 1923/1924 season he was loaned to FC Clydebank . Between 1922 and 1937 he was able to mark 408 league goals (all but 13 goals for Clydebank for Celtic). He was the top scorer in the Scottish Premier League in the 1926-27 , 1927-28 and 1935/36 seasons . He and his team won two championships ( 1925/26 and 1935/36 ) and triumphed five times with the national cup in hand. He also took part in 10 games of the 1937/38 season , which would be victorious for Celtic, even without him.

Between 1928 and 1933 played 7 games for the national team (all within the framework of the British Home Championship ) and scored 6 goals. In one of the templates of the tournament, namely 1930/31 , Scotland were co-winners, to which the 2-0 victory over England (the direct rivals) in the last game, with a goal from McGrory, contributed.

In total, he scored 550 goals in competitive games (a record in British football), including 522 for Celtic. These two values, as well as the mentioned 408 goals in the league games , are high marks and make McGrory the front runner in the history of British football and the club Celtic Glasgow and

After the end of his career, he became a coach at Kilmarnock and finally returned to his home club in the Celtic Park in 1945 , where he held the position as head coach for 20 years, becoming league champion once and twice the national cup and twice the league cup. Then he was inherited by Jock Stein .
