The Scottish League Cup was played for the 21st time in 1966/67 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 13, 1966 and ended with the final on October 29, 1966 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . As defending champion, Celtic Glasgow started the competition that had prevailed against the Glasgow Rangers at the Old Firm in the previous year's final . In this year's final, Celtic and the Rangers met again . For Celtic it was the third final in a row since 1965 and the 5th overall since 1957 . The Rangers reached the final for the fourth year in a row, and for the tenth overall time since 1947 . Both clubs faced each other in the Old Firm Derby in 1958 , 1965 and 1966 . Celtic won the final 1-0 with a goal from Bobby Lennox . It was the fourth league cup triumph for Celtic since 1957. In the 1966/67 season , the club won four more titles; in the Scottish Division One, Celtic won the championship for the 22nd time in the club's history . In the cup final was FC Aberdeen beaten in Glasgow Cup Partick Thistle , and when Lisbon Lions took Celtic also the first British team ever to Europe Champions Cup in the final against Inter Milan . It is still considered an annus mirabilis in the history of Celtic Glasgow. Due to the victory in the championship, Celtic took part in the European Cup in the following season . The Rangers took part in the Exhibition Cities Cup . Celtic flew as defending champion in the first round against the Soviet representative Dynamo Kiev . The Rangers were eliminated in the quarterfinals against the eventual winner of the competition Leeds United .
