The Scottish League Cup was played for the 18th time in 1963/64 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 10, 1963 and ended with the final on October 26, 1963 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . Heart of Midlothian started as defending champion in the competition that had prevailed against FC Kilmarnock in the previous year's final . In this year's final, the Glasgow Rangers met second division side Greenock Morton . The Rangers reached the league cup final for the seventh time after 1947 , 1949 , 1952 , 1958 , 1961 and 1962 . Morton reached the final of the League Cup for the only time in the club's history. The Rangers won the final 5-0 and took the title for the fifth time. Alex Willoughby scored one goal and Jim Forrest scored four more . It was the second-highest final win after a 7-1 between Celtic Glasgow and the Rangers in 1958 . In the 1963/64 season , the Rangers also won their 34th Scottish championship in the club's history. The Rangers also won the final in the cup . This was the second time they won the triple in Scotland after 1949 . Morton was second division champion in the same season .
