The Scottish League Cup was played for the third time in 1948/49 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on September 11, 1948 and ended with the final on March 12, 1949 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . The defending champion started the competition of FC East Fife , which had prevailed against FC Falkirk in the previous year's final . In this year's final, the Glasgow Rangers faced the second-rate Raith Rovers . The Rangers reached the final in the League Cup for the second time after 1947 , the Rovers for the first time. The Rangers won the final 2-0 after goals from Torrance Gillick and Willie Paton and took the title for the second time after 1947. The Rangers won the Scottish Championship and the Cup in the same season , making the triple win for the first time in the club's history . The Rovers were second division champions and set the top scorer with Willie Penman .
