The Scottish League Cup was played for the 68th time in 2013/14 . The Scottish League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League and the Scottish Premiership , began on August 3, 2013 and ended with the final on March 16, 2014 in Glasgow's Celtic Park . Officially, the cup competition was held as the Scottish Communities League Cup . If no winner was found in a duel after 90 minutes plus extra time, the game was decided on penalties . The defending champions started with FC St. Mirren , who won against Heart of Midlothian in the final last year . The FC Aberdeen was by a 4: 2 victory on penalties over Inverness Caledonian Thistle to win the title a total of 6 in the League Cup. It was also the first title for Aberdeen since the league cup success in 1996 .
